A Russian woman embroiled in an upkeep case with her wealthy American husband has been accommodated at the Whitesands hotel following eviction from her palatial home.
Mombasa Chief Magistrate Rosemelle Mutoka instructed Larisa Islamova and her three children to be accommodated at the hotel, pending the hearing of the case set for Thursday. Arval Daniel Headrick, 68, will cater for the costs at full board. This means that the family will be spending Sh23,250 per day at the hotel.
Larisa was evicted from her home on the beach front in Bamburi despite a court order being in place. The court has also issued an order for Headrick to appear in court on August 18 to explain why he should not be arrested and detained in prison for contempt of court. This follows a successful application by Islamova's lawyer, Francis Kadima, stopping the eviction.
The OCS of Bamburi Police station had earlier been directed to enforce the previous orders issued by the court. In the application which was certified as urgent, the defendant was directed to pay Sh658,000 per month, and not evict the applicant from their matrimonial home or take away their vehicle. They started cohabiting in 2007 and solemnized their marriage in 2009, and have a four-year-old son together. Prior to the marriage, the plaintiff had two daughters born in 1991 and 1995, with her late husband, Ruslam Islamova, who died in 2001.
