I won't pick a successor

Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki at the 8th EAC su...President Mwai Kibaki says he will not be pushed to pick his successor. Kibaki wants those interested in his office to use their time on development issues until the time comes when election are called to engage in political campaigns.

President Mwai Kibaki declared that he will not name or appoint his successor contrary to what many would have thought as former President Daniel Moi did before the 2002 general elections.
In one way or the other, I would think that Kibaki did so to run away from humiliation especially after seeing what happened when Moi named the now Deputy Prime and Minister of Finance Uhuru Kenyatta who is also the Gatundu North MP.
Moi went into a quite life after he was defeated when people failed to elect the son of the founder and father of republic of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who could have turned round in his grave if he knew that people had rejected his son. Kibaki’s decision which he announced during the burial of the late former AIPCEA church Archbishop Samson Gaitho on Saturday seems to be sending a message home that Uhuru Kenyatta does not have the backing of the President even though they hail from the same Province.
However, Kibaki’s stand seems to pave way for the former Justice Minister and Gichugu MP Martha Karua who launched her presidential bid a few months ago, and who is also from the Mt Kenya region. And also on this is a tremendous journey former Kabete MP Paul Muite and Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth who both recently declared their interest for top seat.
