A Bondeni resident in Nakuru escaped death after members of the public subjected him to mob justice on suspicion that he killed his friend. Joseph Muli Mohammed famously known as 'Mr Omwana' is suspected to have murdered his friend on August 13.
According to the girlfriend of the deceased, Patrick Wafula had left with his two friends to unknown destination at around 9.30pm on August 12. The two friends included 'Mr Omwana' and another only known by his nickname 'Mr Mose'. Wafula failed to return home. His body was found the following morning at about 4.30am lying on Bondeni road, Bondeni Center.
Nakuru area police chief Johnston Ipara confirmed the incident saying they recovered a bloodstained panga and a stained cap. Ipara said the police believe the panga may have been used to commit the crime. "On being informed that Mr Omwana had been together with the deceased, residents demanded to know his killer. With flurry of anger they descended on him with pangas and stones. He sustained injuries on his head and face," Ipara noted.
Ipara said more clear details will be given after Omwana meets the police chief Inspector for further interrogations into the killing. Mr Omwana was rescued by the police. He was taken to the Rift Valley Provincial General where he received treatment and released to police custody for further interrogation.
